Waste Reduction and Recycling

Recycling of consumer electronics and small home electronics

In accordance with the Law for the Recycling of Specified Kinds of Home Appliances (Home Appliance Recycling Law), we receive used televisions, refrigerators, washing machines, and air-conditioners from customers along with collection and transportation fees, and take responsibility for appropriately handing them over to manufacturers for recycling. We also receive used and discarded home appliances other than the four specified items from customers along with a disposal fee, which we appropriately hand over to recycling operators certified by the government in accordance with the Act on Promotion of Recycling of Small Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (Small Home Appliance Recycling Law).

Collection of compact rechargeable batteries and button batteries

As an initiative to protect human health and the environment from mercury, we participate as a supporting establishment of the Battery Association of Japan in an initiative to collect button-type batteries that contain minute amounts of mercury. We also collect used compact rechargeable batteries in accordance with the Act on the Promotion of Effective Utilization of Resources, and have been commended for these activities by JBRC for eight consecutive years (since 2015).

Collection of used mobile phones and ink cartridges

We collect used mobile phones—which contain large amounts of rare metals such as gold, silver, and copper—with the aim of effectively using resources. We also cooperate in the “Ecorica” initiative for recyclable used ink cartridges, which are collected from customers, cleaned, refilled with ink, and sold under the initiative. Ecorica collection boxes are installed at our stores for this purpose.
